You will find plenty to do when visiting Bristol and its location makes it the perfect base to check out what the south west of England has to offer. Visitors will detect a distinct maritime feel as the city was once a a busy port, with a perfect position on the Severn Estuary.

In recent years the growth in the quantity of excellent quality eateries have given Bristol it's reputation for fine food.

The oldest market in Bristol is St Nicholas which provides an ideal base for a meal and some shopping. In addition to finding many new food products to taste and sample, you will also find a great selection of local specialties and locally farmed produce on offer too. Any trip to the south west, would not be complete without a cream tea. Homemade scones, fresh clotted cream and jam are a tradition. They are be loaded with calories but most people would agree they are well worth it!

Some popular specialities to try include Exmoor Blue cheese and cheddar. This region is a traditional agricultural area, where a large quantity of the best quality meatsand dairy products in the UK are produced each year.

The region is also known for its wonderful cider and this is produced on several local farms. There are a number of farm shops and food markets in the Bristol area that give individuals the chance to buy wonderful quality products, direct from the producers.
