Tips And Tricks On Cooking On The Grill

By Roxane J. Talisen

There are many people who view cooking as a chore, rather than a fun and exciting experience. Cooking, though, can be something very enjoyable! Not only is it fun, but it can encourage a more healthy lifestyle. In order to be a good cook, you should continue to learn. The following article will help you learn some things you may not have known about cooking.

Freeze sauces by pouring leftovers into ice cube trays. When you feel the need to create another meal, you will have them handy to heat up. Don't worry; the sauce will taste delicious after being frozen in an ice cube tray!

If you want to add flavor to your dishes, use a liquid other than milk or water. Use chicken broth, beef stock or vegetable broth instead. Some great replacements for milk are sour cream, yogurt and buttermilk. A good method for increasing your nutritional intake is by increasing the amount of liquids you drink throughout the day.

Allow the oil to heat up in the pan before adding your food. The flavor will be greatly enhanced when it has completed cooking.

When sauteing, don't put too much into the pan. Too much food adds extra moisture and will lead to a steaming effect that will defeat the purpose of sauteing, which is to create a little crispness in the food. Keep the burner at a low setting during this process, as well.

Garlic is a popular ingredient that has one notable downside; its trademark scent transfers easily to your skin. If you have a stainless steel sink, simply rub your hands vigorously on the inside of it, when you are finished handling the garlic. The steel will clean your hands and remove the smell. You can buy stainless steel "soaps" at your local kitchen store to keep on hand.

Adding cauliflower to your mashed potatoes is a great way to reduce the amount of fat and calories they contain. You should use equal portions of potatoes and cauliflower when making this delicious side. Since cauliflower is bland, it will mix right in with the potatoes along with the other ingredients. When they're mashed, cauliflowers have the same appearance and consistency as potatoes, too. Adding a little cauliflower can take calories out of your favorite mashed potato recipes and add in a little vegetable goodness, too.

If you like to cook fish, try catching your own by going fishing, provided you have the time. It's like that old proverb about teaching a man to fish feeding him for a lifetime. Catching one's own fish really is self-sufficient, not to mention tasty.

Wooden skewers should be soaked in plain water before each use for an absolute minimum of thirty minutes. This way, they won't burn while cooking. Keep food from falling off of your skewers by using two parallel skewers instead of a single one.

You can fix a pie crust. If you kneaded your dough for too long, cracks may appear in it. Dribble cold water on cracks in the bottom crust, and smooth them with your finger. If the cracked part is on top of the crust, then put some milk on a brush and brush the crust, then add a bit of sugar. When the pie is done baking, the top crust will be so beautifully glazed that cracks will be hidden.

As previously stated, the best cooks are always learning. When taking enjoyment from creating a dish or meal, you will also have fun in learning new cooking skills, and how to cook other foods. It is about sharing knowledge that you have gathered from others. Cooking is not just a skill to learn, but a gift that is meant to be shared with others.
